Rutgers Interstate Reciprocity Teacher Certification Program
The Rutgers Interstate Reciprocity Teacher Certification Program allows out-of-state alternate route candidates to apply for New Jersey certification. This program is ideal for individuals with out-of-state professional teaching experience and/or out-of-state Alternate Route coursework. Experience and coursework will be evaluated to meet New Jersey requirements for certification. After completing the Department-approved CE program, and having met all other requirements, candidates will be eligible for New Jersey standard certification.
Rutgers-Newark is one of two teacher preparation programs in the state to offer this program. Rutgers Interstate Reciprocity Teacher Certification Program is committed to expanding access and a pathway for certification for out-of-state teachers who want to teach in New Jersey schools and receive credit for their out-of-state experience.
To apply to Rutgers Interstate Reciprocity Teacher Certification Program, a candidate must upload:
- A copy of their unofficial transcript(s)
- A copy of their most recent teaching evaluations
- A copy of their teaching certificate(s)
- A completed copy of the Verification of Program Progress/Completion (VOPC)
- A completed copy of the Record of Professional Experience (ROPE)
